IBM License Metric Tool System Design

IBM system

Being a software user or a tech person is sometimes challenging in a world of various tools, developed by various organizations, based on their products and services. One of these tools is the IBM License Metric Tool (ILMT).

ILMT is a “must have” for almost any organization that is using IBM software programs. As with most things on Earth, it has both good and not so good parts. The main benefit of ILMT is that you, as an end user organization, can take advantage of licensing only the sub-capacity of a server. The difficult part comes when you have to actually install and maintain ILMT, following the contractual guidelines as defined in the Passport Advantage Agreement.

To help you, or the ones responsible for the technical or functional implementation of ILMT in your organization, we created an extensive whitepaper. We’re explaining there what is ILMT and its components, what are the requirements for installation and how to maintain a complete and accurate environment.

We will try to answer the most common “How to…?” questions that you may have related to ILMT.

First things first, the ILMT is built on top of the BigFix infrastructure and is free-of-charge for all IBM customers. To better understand how this works, we have created a section that covers the technical features of BigFix, the infrastructure and what components can be installed. Also, there is a list of mandatory scan requirements for your software and hardware deployments.

Installing ILMT and maintaining a complete environment consists of multiple components. It is a complex system design, but we simplified it for you by providing the exact details you need to know and the steps you need to follow. In this whitepaper, you will also learn:

  • How to download the installation packages and where to find them
  • What are the license request requirements
  • What are the BigFix and ILMT server requirements

To learn more about all these useful guidelines and some more, you can click below to download the whitepaper.
